Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly may not have rolled out the way his team intended but all the buzz has worked in his favor.
Despite a few issues with its confusing drop on iTunes this week, the project has made history with Spotify.
On Tuesday afternoon, TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith announced the album was streamed 9.6 million times globally on Monday. The number smashes the previous record held by Michael Bublé’s Christmas LP, now becoming the most streamed album on its first day.
Along with earning $44,160 in a single day globally, the 12-track album currently holds the No. 1 spot on iTunes. Back in February, Drake’s If You’re Reading This Too Late surprise project set record-breaking marks with Spotify, becoming the most-streamed project in one-week (17.3 million times) and one single-day in the U.S. (6.8 million streams).
