SoundCloud Anyone?

soundcloudWeeks ago word hit the net that Jay Z placed a $56 million bid on Aspiro, the Swedish parent company of high-quality streaming services WiMP and Tilt…. And Aspiro’s board of directors supposedly decided to unanimously recommend all shareholders of Aspiro to accept the offer. That’s big.

But with all this talk of music streaming, it made me think, “what about Soundcloud – my music platform of choice.”

Right now SoundCloud is the world’s leading “social” sound platform where anyone can create sounds and share them everywhere. What it all means is that people (yes including celebs) can easily share music privately with their friends or publicly to blogs, sites and social networks.

As a blogger, this platform is a dream.

It cuts all the redtape of releasing music and the headache of embedded, dreaded codes.

So I figured, everyone has this love… right?

Well, to test that theory I asked 89 music lovers if they visited SoundCloud at least once a month.

My conclusion: Apparently not.

Only 13% revealed they were visitors – which is not too off from other research stats. It turns out 1 in 10 online users between 16 and 64 are using SoundCloud at least once a month, says consumer research firm GlobalWebIndex. And many of those users are also active on Spotify, Google Play, and iTunes.

With those stats its clear to see Spotify isn’t in need of immediate danger – specifically in the US – but the platform is growing rather swiftly in Asia.

My final thought: #StayWoke #DontSleep

SoundCloud is currently working on an advertising progam (Premier Partners) that may change the game. They recently signed up 100 Partners and received approximately $1 million in advertising revenue since launching the program 6 months ago. Not bad.
