Lots was going on last night. While on my first date since recovering from a week long cold, new Ye and Rihanna dropped, new Weezy and Migos dropped, Sundance photos were coming across and then I was hit with lots of commentary over the BET Honors.
A surprise to me, Kanye was presented with the Visionary Award. Kudos to him. It’s well deserved of course. Selected for his “extraordinary contributions across the arts,” Yeezy joined Usher and Phylicia Rashad as the night’s honorees.
However what really had folk talking is that Ye was introduced by a very unlikely presenter: Damon Dash.
For heads who follow the latest news Dame has extremely candid about his dissatisfaction when it comes to Ye.
To no surprise Dame continued his candid commentary about his history and relationship with West, citing their “emotional” differences. He went on to add that he “didn’t respect him as a rapper because [he] was around the greatest rappers….but [Kanye] has courage.” Ye was also equally candid during his acceptance speech, stating that the “kid in the back of the classroom” has to “smack” people with creativity. He also made a quip about his wife, Kim Kardashian whom he playfully said has dated “broke black dudes.” The presentation included a video montage of commentary by Jay Z, Common and Kendrick Lamar as well.
BET Honors airs on Feb. 29.
My two-cents: Who’s idea was it to use Dame? This N-word feels like every platform is his to air his raw emotion. I can’t with Dame.
