All sorts of good movies are hitting Sundance this year. Here’s another one – Fresh Dressed.
Fresh Dressed is the collaboration of hip-Hop historian Sacha Jenkins and CNN films on the origins of hip-hop fashion. From the days of MCs wearing elaborate costumes onstage to rap’s obsession with designer duds – all is covered in detail.
“Hip-hop fashion was derived through the music,” explains Carl Banks in an exclusive clip from the documentary. “It was a ‘we’re not gonna follow the rules’ mentality, both in music and in fashion.”
Commentary from the likes of Pharrell and Andre Leon Talley are featured in the documentary — which debuts Saturday, Jan. 24.
