Remember walkmen? Well before the iPod, there was the walkman. It allowed heads to listen to the radio, CDs and tapes while on the go.
For almost 2 decades, the Sony Walkman was the best thing on the market — that is until Apple iPods came on the scene with their sleek ability to downlowad personalized music, photos and videos. Despite a fairly quiet comeback for the Walkman last fall with the A17 model, it appears Sony have re-upped their flagship audio player once again, and it comes with a hefty price tag attached.
The walkman retails for a cool $1,200, the company debuted the Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this week. Much like its predecessor, the ZX2 may not be the prettiest or lightest thing on the market, but it’s sure to perk the ears of true audiophiles, boasting an S-Master HX processor (which, in layman’s terms, means pretty fucking incredible sound quality).
As standard, the ZX2 contains 128GB storage and a micro SD slot if you need even more, while allowing for seamless functionality with a touchscreen display and volume and playback buttons on the side of the handset. The downside, however: it’s running on three-year-old Android software. You’ll still be able to download apps and music from Google Play, but it’s hardly giving smartphones a run for their money.
The Sony Walkman ZX2 is set to launch in Spring 2015. Check out The Verge‘s hands-on review below.
