New D’Angelo Album Here

d-angeloFinally … D’Angelo has returned.

After hosting a exclusive listening session in New York City sponsored by Red Bull Music Academy and Afropunk on Sunday evening, D’Angelo’s long-awaited new album Black Messiah is here. Fourteen years (wow….it’s been that long) after his 2000 opus Voodoo, the 40-year-old neo-soul singer and his band The Vanguard present a 12-track LP entirely recorded analog on two-inch tape. Revolving around the subjects of love and politics, Black Messiah features contributions from Q-Tip, Kendra Foster of Funkadelic, and Questlove of The Roots.

The album’s lead single “Really Love” will be serviced to radio on Monday.

“Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are), but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape where those songs can live to the fullest,” explains D’Angelo when speaking about the album title and theme of the record. “Black Messiah is not one man. It’s a feeling that, collectively, we are all that leader.”

Available for purchase now on iTunes, you can stream the album in full courtesy of Spotify.
