Everyone wants free promo these days.
Apparently Rihanna has ruffled the feathers of Coronet Diamonds, a jewelery manufacturer who claims she improperly re-purposed an image they created for Veterans Day on her IG page.
TMZ reports that Coronet has sent Rihanna a cease and desist letter. But here’s the twist. They don’t want money. They’ll settle for an apology on Rihanna’s social media platforms … an apology that makes it clear Coronet created the image.
So basically, they want free promo.
My two-cents: This isn’t about doing the right thing. This is about free promo, which to be honest they already have because this article is posted everywhere. This cease and desist act is especially petty because borrowing, reposting, editing is the way of IG. There’s no doubt a fan passed Rih this pic and she – thinking it was beautiful – posted it. That’s how IG works. Well, I guess she learned a valuable lessen. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out – esp since our girl typically never takes a photo down and is opposed to the free promo these days. SMH… They should have gone about this differently. You want free promo … give her some jewelry to wear and she could have posted your hashtag without issue. Trust me you’ll gain no new fans by strong arming a shout out. I know I damn sure wouldn’t do it.
