Solange Postpones Sneaker Launch in Honor of Michael Brown

Angel Ball 2011 - ArrivalsThe always outspoken Solange is using her voice to oppose the jury’s decision in the Michael Brown case.

Though her new “Wild Wonder” Puma sneaker line was in line to launch on Black Friday, she decided to postpone the release to send a strong message of solidarity in line of the buying boycott many others are supporting.

Explaining her decision on Instagram, she wrote, “To echo my feelings shared surrounding the outcome of the Michael Brown case, I have solely decided to postpone the release of my Puma collaboration originally scheduled to release this Friday, November 28th to Monday December 1st. I am truly grateful for everyone’s support and excited to share this collection with you soon…” — Solange.”

The movement was spearheaded on social media by activist group Blackout For Human Rights:

“We mourn the loss of men like Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Ezell Ford, John Crawford and Michael Brown, who met their deaths at the hands of police officers,” the organization said on their YouTube page. “We mourn the loss of life and the absence of justice for Trayvon Martin, Renisha McBride and Jordan Davis, killed by private citizens, in a climate where police action demonstrates this as acceptable. An affront to any citizen’s human rights threatens the liberty of all. So, we participate in one of the most time honored American traditions: dissent.”
