Tea Spilled: Will Rihanna Be Designing for Puma?

rih_250The Rihanna reign just won’t let up.

NY Daily News is reporting that Rihanna is close to inking a seven-figure deal to design sneakers and clothing for Puma.

Supposedly, the sportswear giant is already building a team to work on the “lifestyle” line.

“She is going to have her own coordinator to go to at Puma who only handles her, and they’ll have a junior coordinator helping them,” said our insider. “The focus is shoes, but she will also be helping with pants and tops.”

Allegedly, the contract is worth just over $1 million and will prevent the Adidas-obsessed star from wearing rivals’ brands. “She will have to slowly start to incorporate Puma into her wardrobe,” said the source. “She will be wearing all Puma gear in shoots and out and about.”

While RiRi hasn’t made it official yet, we hear she’s on board.

“The offer isn’t signed yet, but she is in 100% and wants to do this,” the source added.

The Barbadian star, who has built a reputation around her daring style, has been flirting with the fashion business for some time. In 2011, she worked on underwear and jeans for Armani, and she has since co-designed a line for British store River Island with Adam Selman, who has created some her most dramatic red carpet looks. Last year, she also put together two makeup collections for luxury brand MAC.

“It’s not all down to my voice,” she told British Vogue in February. “There’s people with way more talent than I when it comes to singing; bigger voices. But people want to know who you are. Fashion is a clear indication, a way to express your attitude, your mood,” she said.

Over the summer, it was also rumored that she even filed for a series of trademarks, including the names Fenty Apparel and Fenty Clothing, leading to widespread speculation that her own line is on its way.

This wouldn’t be Puma’s first time at the celebrity collaboration rodeo. The German multinational hired Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles as an “art director” in February, releasing a collection of out-there sneakers that she worked on with “some of (her) favorite emerging artists, photographer (and) graphic designers).”

Puma also worked with superstar interior designer and architect Philippe Starck on a range of Croc-like sneakers and his Starck Naked Bodywear line of underwear between 2004 and 2007. Nonetheless, the firm has some catching up to do with archrival Adidas, which has scored a huge hit with its Adidas Yeezy series with Kanye West.
