Critics Angry At Taxes Resulting From Jay Z’s Made In America Festival

hov.cigarAccording to a recent LA Times report, residential tax payers could end up covering costs associated with Jay Z’s 2 day Made In America festival – $170,000 to be exact.

All together, the estimated cost of the festival is $670,000. Live Nation, the company who stages the event, is required to pay $500,000 of that debt, which includes fees for police patrols, street closures, trash cleanup, and other city services. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti however believes the commercial event benefits the city way more than the unreimbursed expenses.

The city’s Board of Police Commissioners received a report last week showing Made in America required more than $475,000 in police overtime pay. Services provided by the Department of Transportation, which handled street closures and other services, totaled more than $122,000, Garcetti spokesman Yusef Robb said. And the city Fire Department provided more than $35,000 in services, Robb said.

My two-cents: So how many people will the this cost be spread over? That’s a critical question. If we do basic math and assume that the cost will be spread over 170,000 people than that’s $1 each. Now let’s use common sense that are exponentially more people in LA to absorb the cost which means this article in the Times is ridiculous.
