I’m Back from the Bahamas

acq_Retro effect 6.250So I’m back from the semi-sunny Bahamas.

The temperature stays constant in the high 80s.  It rains daily, but it’s very, very short-lived so it’s nothing to fret over.

If you ever go there, always get the fish.  I’m always curious to know what a country’s specialty food is and for the Bahamas it’s fish.  It’s seasoned to perfection no matter the type.

The Bahamas is pretty Americanized.  I was surprised to find that was the case. There’s almost no language barrier.  Their official language is English, but all places – including some states in the US – have a dialect that may cause a little noise in the translation.  It’s very minimum there. They also listen to the same music as we do in the states.  I heard lots of Drake, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown.

My BF was sick as soon as we set foot on Bahamian soil. He gets ill pretty often and easily but in his defense, that air on the plane was simply RIDICULOUS.  It was way too cold for comfort.  Even if warm weather is expected I always have some sort of sweater or jacket.  This trip was no different so I was bundled up.  I told him to do the same, but I’ve digressed ….

With that said, he really couldn’t do any water activities but one cool thing we did on land was visit the Atlantis aquarium.  (See the gorg pic) It was really nice.  After 6pm it’s free so if you’re planning a visit there, don’t buy a ticket.  While we’re at it, book your stay there as well.  We stayed next door at the RIU which was nice.  We’ve been a patron of RIU resorts for years, but Atlantis was better.  Just be aware that you’ll pay for food and drinks separately at every pop.

Outside of the aquarium I spent lots of time in the water w/ the BF watching on land.  I also went solo on two excursions – snorkeling (which I’ve never done before this trip) and sub diving.  Snorkeling is pretty common.  Slap a mask on and breath out your mouth and ta-dah! you see tons of fish swimming around in the sea.  The cool thing was the sub diving.  So, imagine a motor scooter which drives underwater w/ a submarine helmet attached.  That’s what sub diving is.  You hop on a motorized bike,  get your head in the submarine helmet which pumps out oxygen and drive fairly close to the ocean floor.  The view of fish and coral was absolutely amazing.  It was easily one of the coolest things I’ve done to date.
