Is The iPhone All Hype?

apple-iphone6_ohsodjAre you getting the new iPhone?

According to Apple, they’ve sold more than 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models, a record for a new model. CEO Tim Cook says demand for the phones has exceeded the company’s expectations. And two weeks after it’s release, local stores are still asking buyers of the phone to wait outside the store in line.

I suppose its good news for Apple when just last year they only sold 9 million of the then-new iPhone 5C and 5S models. Or …. It could be that most people already had the iPhone 5 so why get the C or S? Remember .. Data is only important when it’s properly compared to the right benchmark. It was that shoddy comparison that made wonder if this was all media. Are people really buying this phone?

By now we all know that the biggest and most visible upgrade to the iPhone is the new 4.7 (or 5.5-inch screen if you go with the plus version) – which is massive compared to the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 and 4. Yes, Apple has finally thrown in the towel that smaller is better and met Samsung head on.
The entire iPhone 5 fits inside the screen of the iPhone 6.
For all intents and purposes, it’s really just Apple’s version of the Samsung.

Is that what customers wanted?

One could argue, if they wanted the Samsung, they could have purchased one a long time ago. And who can ignore the recent celebrity nude iCloud fiasco.

So with those two major points said, I wondered how true the iPhone craze was. Despite the sales, was enough data points out there to support the craze.

The question I posed to 103 music lovers was “Will you be purchasing the new iPhone 6?” And here’s the response …

Yes. Sixty-four percent asked confirmed that that at some point, the new iPhone would soon be theirs.

I suppose that’s support enough. Some could point to the big new screen, the better battery or perhaps the better camera that have people buying the latest version of the iPhone, but I would still argue that it’s all marketing. Instead of my first thought that perhaps it was Apple creating a false demand, I think the real truth is despite that fact that Apple has created a new iPhone with similar bells and whistles as it’s largest competitor, Apple is just cooler. And that branding just prevails.
