Capitol Records Sues Monster Energy Over Beastie Boys Music

BeastieCapitol Records and Universal-Polygram International Publishing are suing Monster Energy Drink for copyright infringement involving several songs from the Beastie Boys.

The suit is seeking $1.2 million for illegally using five tracks during a promotional sports video. The video in question promoted an annual snowboarding competition called “Rukus in the Rockies” featuring Z-Trip remixes of the Beastie Boys songs.

After the tragic death of former Beastie Boy Adam Yauch in 2012 , it was revealed through his will that any use of their music through a promotional and/or advertisement setting are strictly prohibited. (Hmmm … that’s an interesting tidbit.)
