Eminem and his publishing company have filed a copyright infringement suit against the National Party in New Zealand after current prime minister John Key used the rapper’s hit “Lose Yourself” in a re-election campaign ad without permission, according to The Guardian.
“It is both disappointing and sadly ironic that the political party responsible for championing the rights of music publishers in New Zealand by the introduction of the three strikes copyright reforms should itself have so little regard for copyright,” Eminem’s publishers said in a statement, per The Guardian.
The National Party, for its part, said that the work in question has been used by other organizations without complaint.
My two-cents: Sir, that doesn’t make it right.
