Ray Rice To Appeal Suspension

rayWell we know this would happen, but that still doesn’t make it a good look. Ray Rice is appealing his suspension from the NFL.

After video footage of Ray punching his then-fiancee Janay Palmer surfaced online last Monday (Sept. 8), he was released from the team and given an indefinite suspension from the NFL. Now, Rice will be represented by the NFL Players Association and a lawyer in an effort to have the decision overturned. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will oversee the appeal, according to NBC Sports.

Rice’s defense in his appeal will be that he was truthful to Goodell when probed about the incident in a meeting back in June. Goodell’s initial punishment was a two-game suspension, a decision he claims stemmed from not being aware of the “sequence of events.”

“This video shows a starkly different sequence of events from what you and your representatives stated when we met on June 16, and is important new information that warrants reconsideration of the discipline imposed on you in July,” Goodell stated following the video’s release.

The deciding factor of Rice’s appeal will be whether or not he lied about the events that occurred. Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome insists that Rice was forthcoming. He, Rice, Goodell and other witnesses will go before a hearing officer appointed by Goodell.

My two-cents: SMH. If this gets overturned, this will be a huge mess. And all the while his wife will stand by him. Sad.
