Hmmmm….. Is that right? You don’t say.
According to NBC whistleblowers, “Today Show” execs may finally be willing to consider letting Matt Lauer go after ratings continue to drop behind “Good Morning America.”
I think we all remember months ago when Ann Curry publicly left without fanfare and in tears. Execs blamed falling ratings and lack of chemistry for her abrupt departure.
The morning she left, tears actually welled up in my eyes as well. For days before that infamous moment, there was a huge media frenzy documenting in detail her firing. It was said that Matt was instrumental in her leaving, but for me the truth of that allegation was clear the day of her announcement. Sitting on the exact same couch as Matt, she could barely lay eyes on him – a complete contrast to the hug she gaVe Al Rocker. For all the years of support she gave to that news team and franchise, it was gut-wrenching to watch her be publicly humiliated to the point of tears.
It reminded me of my own personal saga. In a past role and life, I had to learn a critical lesson the hard way – Cover Your Ass, better known as CYA. Always make sure there’s a paper trial for any key decisions. Sounds a little dramatic for the cush environment of Corporate America, but those familiar with the landscape know exactly much bloodshed can occur there. I made the mistake of believing that my teammates were people of sound morals; could stand strong in the light of scrutiny. Nothing was farther from the truth. The real truth was without documentation holding their feet to the fire, they suffered a case of sudden amnesia and I was left holding the ball.
My poor friends listened to me for endless nights expressing my frustrations. But what I didn’t say is that another feeling I was plagued with was hurt. I could relate to Ann’s tears because I considered their acts a betrayal. Silly me for thinking of them as friends. These were people I spent days, months, years with. I ate lunch with them every single day.
If you don’t have a belief in a higher power, you may find the SVU post a little more appealing at this moment. For those who don’t take offense, I have found comfort in the Book of Revelation, “live by the sword, die by the sword.” Commonly, the expression is understood to mean, ‘You can expect to become a victim of whatever means you use to get what you want.’
With that said, I can’t say I was necessarily surprised to see today’s article on Matt.
(Pssst….and here’s a little FYI, a poll on NYDailyNews.com revealed that over 80% of pollers think that he should be replaced. SMH….) Karma is a b*tch.
