A sound engineer, Chauncey Mahan, claiming to be the key producer/creator of Roc-A-Fella’s entire body of work between 1999 – 2000 has filed a lawsuit claiming he’s as much the owner of the 6 albums as the label itself.
You remember Chauncey …. Jay Z and Roc Nation filed an extortion police report earlier this year, claiming he was holding boxes of master recordings for ransom demanding $100,000.
A sting operation was set up for Hov where his people met Chancey at a storage facility in the San Fernando Valley, and unbeknownst to him the LAPD was there and seized the boxes. BTW Cops still have them.
TMZ reports that Chauncey now wants a judge to say he was so essential to the creation of the music he’s a co-owner of the copyright. As such, it would give him the right to get the masters back.
He really feels entitled. I’d be interested to hear why.
