So Chuck D wants Urban radio to “get it right or be gone.”
Chuck got the attention of heads when he took to Twitter and opined over “what a sloppy fiasco (Hot 97) has made of Hip-Hop” with the Summer Jam concert.
Chuck took particular issue with the use of the N-word and a line-up he felt did not adequately represent the New York hip-hop community.
“My goal by year’s end is to change the face and sound of urban radio,” D promised. “I’ve been in this shit 30 years, too long to just sit and let it be. I’m not going to be the grim reaper. I don’t want to be the grim reaper. But people have to stand up and we need some change, and it’s time.”
IDK … I have a real issue when “legends” are over critical of the new generation of artists. For some reason, there are those who insist because you’ve been successful at a particular craft you some how earn the golden card of being disrespectful. I happen to think you can offer your feedback in a more helpful manner. I can’t see how one would think publicly shaming folk will ever have a positive impact. That’s not going to do anything but force people to defend themselves. Personally I can’t hear Chuck’s message because of the way he delivered it. Messy boots.
