Donald Sterling on His Way Out

Looks like Clippers owner Donald Sterling may be on his way out.

The NBA announced Monday (May 19) that the process to terminate his L.A. Clippers ownership has begun.

Donald has until May 27 to respond to the charges and has the opportunity to make a presentation to the NBA owners. He will also be allowed to make a presentation at a special Board of Governors meeting scheduled for June 3.2. A hearing to terminate his ownership will take place June 3, while will be presided over by Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. Three-fourths votes from the owners is required to terminate Sterling’s ownership.

The NBA says, “Mr. Sterling’s action and positions significantly undermine the NBA’s efforts to promote diversity and inclusion; damage the NBA’s relationship with marketing and merchandising partners, as well as with government and community leaders. Mr. Sterling engaged in other misconduct as well, including issuing a false and misleading press statement about this matter.”

The announcement comes after Sterling reportedly told rapper Maserati that the $2.5 million fine, lifetime ban and the league forcing him to sell his team was an “excessive” punishment. Read the full press release below.
