Last week Rihanna happened to be seated next to the police commission chief at the Clippers game at L.A.’s Staples Center, so Soboroff asked to take a selfie while she was wearing an LAPD wristband.
Eager to oblige, Ri offered to snap the picture herself, but the phone slipped out of her hand and smashed on the floor.Yikes!
If #rihannaselfie phone too pricey, donate $5 for @LAPDHQ wristband like these. http://t.co/ptRLUHHCee 213-489-4636 pic.twitter.com/MKZZ8CK6Ey

She later then tweeted her apologies, “Sorry I broke your phone @SteveSoboroff :).”

Talk about making lemonade from lemons, the commission president used the faux pas as an opportunity to raise funds for the LAPD Foundation by auctioning off the phone to benefit cadets and families of the fallen officers He even got RiRi to sign the phone.
At publication time, the top bid on the still-functional iPhone was at $56,000 in the three-day EBay auction, which closes today (Thursday).
AND to make up for her mistake, Ri donated over $25,000 to Soboroff’s L.A. Police Foundation.
Looks like the Chief knows how to make a dollar.
