Michael Douglass and Catherine Zeta-Jones have separated. Their publicist released this statement: “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage. There will be no further comment.” Raise your hand if you didn’t see this coming?
I always found it peculiar that such a beautiful woman was with him. After some years I chalked it up to his charming personality and acting skills. I think we can all agree that he was coming to the table with things other than youth.
But I saw the writing on the wall when Michael revealed that his stage 4 throat cancer was caused by performing o s on a woman with HPV.
(Sidebar: HPV stands for human papillomavirus. It is the most common sexually transmitted infection. There are more than 40 types of HPV. Some types of genital HPV may cause genital warts, while other types of genital HPV are linked to abnormal cell changes on the cervix (detected through Pap tests) that can lead to cervical cancer. Eighty percent of sexually active adults will have been infected with HPV before the age of 50. However, most people who have HPV don’t know they have it, because they do not develop genital warts or other manifestations of HPV that they can identify. In most cases, the virus is harmless and most people have no symptoms. The body clears most HPV infections naturally.)
Although he didn’t mention his wife by name, she’s the most likely suspect.
A man of Michael’s age had to know this wasn’t going to go over well at the home front. I like to think of myself as being more level-headed than the average woman, but I would have stone-cold turned into something (not someone) my husband had never dreamed of in his wildest imagination had this happened to me. How dare he publicly out her like that.
Now I in no way am saying that they didn’t possibly have other issues going on in their home. I’m sure his cancer battle and her struggle with bipolar disorder have been huge challenges. But let’s be honest…. the HPV comment had to push things over the edge.
SMH … I’m just shocked that it took this long for it to happen.
