Quick Thoughts Vol. 9

ripHere’s some current FYI … Gotta keep my friends in the loop.

Instagram Launches Video Sharing.  Well, well, well.  My how things change.  Seems like I just figured out what Vine was. Now just like that…it’s about to be gone.  Thursday, Instagram announced that it would be adding video capabilities to its photo-sharing service.  The videos would have a running time of 15 seconds compared to Vine’s 6 seconds and unlike Vine would offer the same great filters we see on Instagram.  This comes right on time as recent reports revealed that Vine videos – which BTW is owned by Twitter – were being shared more than Instagram photos. When Facebook first bought Instagram for $1 billion in April 2012, everyone thought Mark was crazy.  But today, that guy seems like some sort of genius.  Instagram is gangster.  They just took the video idea from Twitter and made it better.  Yep, …. R.I.P. Vine. It’s over for you.

Jay-Z Gets Certified.  Congrats are in order for rapper/ mogul Jay-Z. He was just certified by the NBA players’ association and MLB as an agent. Now that said, he’s still not home free. What’s not clear is how soon Hov can represent players. He has to sell his share of the Brooklyn Nets before he can represent anyone, according to NBA rules, and at this point no one knows if that’s been done. There are all sorts of conflicting reports out there. But let’s all be honest. I don’t think he’ll have a problem doing that. Owning a portion of a professional team has become the new toy for rich men. The first NBA player Hov is expected to sign is Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant. This is so big to me – from the streets to the boardroom. You have to love it. There are about a thousand hard-working agents sitting at home pissed right now. Get over it!!

Tony Passes.  This was unbelievably sad. Actor James Gandolfini died suddenly from a heart attack at the young age of 51.  He was reportedly on vacation with his 8 year-old son.  SMH … I really hope another adult was there with him.  I can’t even imagine.  Although James had many accolades, he was most infamous for his role of Tony Soprano on HBO’s series The SopranosThe Sopranos was such an epic series – to me at least – mainly because James managed to create a character that was knee deep in crime yet equally as vulnerable and lovable.  The conflicting emotions created a tension that evolved the character in a pop icon.  He will definitely be missed.
