A San Francisco radio station has been playing Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” on an endless loop for nearly 48 hours. Yikes!
The 2002 hit has been played over and over on a loop since 3 p.m. Friday.
I saw the story come across Friday, but I just personally assumed there was an equipment error.
Well it caused so much chatter that it got its own hashtag, #Nelly1057.
It turns out that the Nelly loop, according to Rolling Stone, was unleashed on an unsuspecting public to advertise the relaunch of a radio station: Latino Mix FM 105.7 which is being rebranded as Hot 105.7.
Such a publicity move is known as “stunting” and has been used by others, including a Toronto station that courageously played Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” for a full week.
Good Lord. A simple announcement, a couple of Twitter blasts and maybe an email would have been enough for me. I can’t imagine hearing this song – which I love by the way – for that long. Doing the most!
