Friends, have you heard about this?
Facebook will soon pay $4 billion in cash and $12 billion worth of shares for WhatsApp. And that estimate could rise to $19 billion. Just to put this into perspective, the purchase price dwarfs the $1 billion Facebook paid for Instagram. The justification for the price of this deal is WhatsApp’s growth, which has been even faster than Facebook’s own in its early years.
Soo …. Does anyone know what WhatsApp is? WhatsApp is a text messaging application with 450 million users that lets people send texts, photos and videos on their smartphones. Most of the users are in the U.K. and Asia.
It charges users a flat fee of $1 a year to use the service, and the first year is free.
