Monday night Jimmy Fallon debuted as the new host of the legendary Tonight Show recently hosted by Jay Leno. After 42 years of being on the West Coast, the Show aired in New York City – its new home.
Jimmy started the new launch out by humbly introducing his parents, thanking his staff and announcing his goals with the show:
“I just want to do the best I can and take care of this show for a while and if you guys let me stick around long enough, maybe I’ll get the hang of it,” he said. “My goal is to make you laugh so you go to sleep with a smile on your face and live a longer life.”
Nostalgia continued to loom throughout the broadcast, which opened with a sequence directed by Spike Lee featuring Fallon at famous New York landmarks. And the program was taped at the fully refurbished Studio 6B at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
The show kicked off with a skit bringing an entourage of celebrities giving Fallon $100 as a bet loss that he’d never become the host of “Tonight.” The procession included Robert De Niro, Tiny Fey, Mike Tyson, Seth Rogen, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, Joan Rivers and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
U2 performed and in case you missed it, Will Smith – the official first guest – and Fallon presented a pre-taped segment called “The Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing.” Check it out below.
