I just about flipped my top when I saw that come across my timeline. I need to school Macklemore. Since I doubt I’ll see him in the near future, here’s an open letter to him.
Dear Macklemore,
While I find your gesture sincere and a true representation of the type of stand-up guy you seem to be, I believe your time is being misused.
This is the time to enjoy your success. You have worked hard and should take a moment to relish in the fruits of your labor.
I agree that Kendrick Lamar is talented. For those that questioned it, he proved it in his performance. However, I’m a graduate of the old school and I don’t think that Kendrick’s talents should be placed above your own.
Now that you’ve been catapulted into the limelight, it’s imperative that you blockout the haters. Their debates over who the better emcee is, are clearly irrelevant as the Grammy now sits on your mantle.
Such is life. Own it. Accept it. That’s what you worked for. As for Kendrick – and Drake, Kanye West along with J. Cole who wasn’t even nominated – they will persevere.
