This is super interesting. A feature writer at Slate, has discovered the obvious – there were no black acts that topped the Hot 100 all year long in 2013.
Apparently, that’s never happened before in the chart’s 55-year history. That’s a big difference from 2004 when literally every song that topped the Hot 100 was by a person of color. Now before you respond, there’s a technicality there. The only black artists had featured roles. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were supported by Wanz on “Thrift Shop” and Ray Dalton on “Can’t Hold Us”; T.I. and Pharrell supported Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”; and Rihanna is currently supporting Eminem with “The Monster.”
