Holler If Ya Hear Me, the musical inspired by Tupac Shakur, will premiere in New York City’s Palace Theatre June 19 . Previews for the the Kenny Leon-directed production will begin May 26.
The non-biographical musical’s description is as follows:
“Holler If Ya Hear Me, the world inside Tupac Shakur’s music and lyrics, blazes to life in a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope. Inner city lives struggle for peace against the daily challenges they face in this entertaining and original musical. Through the poetry of one of the 20th century’s most influential and culturally prominent voices, we are given a window into realities of the streets still relevant today.”
The musical will use songs like “Me Against the World,” “Keep Ya Head Up,” “California Love,” and of course the 1993 record “Holler If Ya Hear Me” from 2Pac’s catalog.
Holler If Ya Hear Me was penned by Todd Kreidler and will be produced by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, Eric L. Gold, Chunsoo Shin and Jessica Green.
