“Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman,” rapper Kanye West said in his 2015 song “Facts” in reference to his shoe line with Adidas. It took nearly two years, but it looks as if West’s claim is now a fact.
Word is Adidas has overtake Jordan as the number 2 sneaker brand in America. The news comes from Matt Powell of the NPD Group, who posted a series of tweets on recent industry sales figures on Monday.
So how did the overtake happen? “Adidas basketball grew more than 40 percent, while Nike declined in the mid-singles and Brand Jordan lost about a third of its sales,” said Tonya Garcia of MarketWatch.
Adidas has overtaken Jordan as the #2 brand in U.S. sport footwear. This is an achievement I never thought I would see in my lifetime.
