Sometimes I have a couple of quick thoughts on current happenings. Nothing major. So here they are:
Should the Grammys go back to NY? In a word – YES! First, let me be honest. I heart New York and I DO NOT heart L.A. My impressions of L.A. – pretentious and congested. I literally cried in the traffic there it was so bad. On the flipside, I see NY as being all the possibility, opportunity and gumbo soup it’s slated as being. I always feel a sense of freedom there. I can be anyone and do anything there. Had I not grown up in the south – and if I had an extra “0” attached to my salary – my bags would be packed. For now, I’m going to pass on the match box living I would surely be destined for there at this point in my life. Seriously, getting back on track, I think we’ve done the Staples gig for long enough. The Grammys weren’t too bad this year, but I do feel like it’s been on a constant decline. Perhaps a new location would breathe some life into it. Big cities like NY tend to have an energy to them. Maybe producers can capitalize on it and take the formalities, seriousness and staging out of the event. It’s music. It should be fun.
Kevin Ware. Sweet Jesus …. Ouch! This guy suffered a gruesome open fracture of his right tibia (they call it tibia, I call it shin in my world). You could literally see his bone sticking out of his leg. Yes, the white bone came through his skin (dry heeving for a second just thinking of it.)! That is so unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like that and apparently most other people haven’t either (the coach cried, his peers damn near passed out on the court). The media is describing it as one of the most horrific televised sports injuries ever. Obviously its fairly rare in occurrence, but when it does happen it’s usually the result of a high impact hit or a weird movement during high volicity activities. Anywho, I hear his surgery was successful and he’s up on crutches. Doctors do expect him to play again.
Chris Brown making the media rounds. SMH … I see why Rihanna has such a hard time deciding what to do when it comes to matters of the heart with this guy. Chris Breezy has been going hard making the media rounds for his new album “X.” For years after the violent incident with Rihanna he stayed far away from – and at one point banned – interviews. But as of Friday, he’s back. I feel bad even saying this …. but when’s he’s open and appears unguarded, he’s super hard to villainize. He’s charismatic, funny. His interviews are super engaging. Perhaps it’s because he’s selling an album but I’d like to think it’s really just a sign of maturity (I say that loosely) and moving forward. When you hit rock bottom and finally admit it out-loud, there’s a certain liberation that occurs. It seems like he’s there. Of course none of the interviews have purely focused on the music – especially when his personal life is so entertaining. But he’s managed to respond well. Surprisingly my favorite questions – not to be confused with overall interview – came from my nemisis Matt Lauer. He just asked some point blank, don’t BS me questions focusing on the status of his relationship with Rihanna, confirmation that he’s dedicated to an assault never happening again, and understanding that a back-slide will not only hurt his career but Rihanna’s as well. Admittedly, these should all be questions he expects but for someone reason not too many people had the balls to ask. Also, while you expect a question, it’s nothing like the realization of hearing it … and as viewer seeing the look on his face while answering it. This pains me say but … good job Matt. Now let’s see if this kid can keep his word.
Okay…maybe that wasn’t such a quick response but who’s keep tab?
