The awards keep coming for “Atlanta” and “Lemonade,” two of the most celebrated pop culture works of 2016. Both were winners in the 76th annual Peabody Awards, which were announced on Thursday.
The seven honorees were chosen out of 60 finalists. “Atlanta,” FX’s new show created by Donald Glover, has already won two awards at both the Golden Globes and the Writers Guild of America Awards, and is a probable Emmy contender.
Beyoncé won for “Lemonade,” her “visual album” that was a global phenomenon upon its surprise release on HBO last April. “The audacity of its reach and fierceness of its vision challenges our cultural imagination,” a Peabody statement said.
The awards, recognizing the best in electronic media, are given annually by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The winners and finalists will be celebrated at a gala in New York on May 20.
