As promised, Chance the Rapper met with Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner primarily to discuss funding — or lack thereof — for Chicago Public Schools. So how did it go?
While Governor Rauner has yet to share any feedback on social media, Chance has since filled his feed with links to articles and videos that make clear he is disappointed — though not dispirited. One video clip sees Chance call upon the media, specifically Billboard and Complex, “to give a comprehensive history of how we ended up here.”

The meeting between Chance and Governor Rauner first materialized after the independent artist — a vocal activist for several causes including voting, gun violence, education and more — and Rauner communicated via Twitter. Following Chance’s impressive night at the Grammys, in which he took home three awards including Best New Artist, Governor Rauner tweeted his praise, “Congrats to Chance The Rapper for making history as an independent artist and taking home 3 Grammys. IL is proud that you’re one of our own.”
