If you love big power ballads and you’re a Mariah Carey fan, you’ll be happy to know that she has released her latest single, “The Art of Letting Go.”
The ballad, produced by Rodney Jerkins, finds Maria showing her full pipes off as she sings of life after heartbreak . “Letting go ain’t easy/ It’s just exceedingly hurtful/ Cause somebody you used to know is flinging your world around/ And they watch as you’re falling down,” she sings.
“This is such a personal record to me,” she posted on Facebook today (Nov. 11). “I wrote the lyrics so that anyone and everyone could relate to them and hopefully release anything that they need to let go of that’s holding them back or bringing them down.”
“The Art of Letting Go” follows up her duet with Miguel, “#Beautiful.” The single peaked at No. 15 on the Hot 100 chart earlier this year.
Mariah has been working closely with Jermaine Dupri on her follow-up to 2009’s “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,” but delayed the album due to a shoulder injury. Early last month (October), she alerted fans that she was on her “way to a full recovery” and to expect new music “very soon.”
