Kodak Black will be a free man any day now. The 19-year-old Florida rapper (real name Dieuson Octave) appeared before a judge on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 16) for a hearing in connection to his May arrest on multiple charges of robbery, false imprisonment, drug possession, firearm possession, driving a vehicle without a valid license and fleeing a law enforcement officer, according to the Broward Sherrif’s Office. He was also arrested last October on robbery, assault among other charges.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Black, an Atlantic Records signee, pleaded no contest to the charges and entered a plea agreement. According to XXL, Atlantic Records executive vice president of legal, Michael Kushner, was present to testify on Black’s behalf, telling the judge, “He’s only at the very beginning of a very promising career … It is our hope that the court will agree that he be given the opportunity to turn his life around.”
Judge Lisa Porter reportedly withheld adjudication, which would allow Black to tour internationally. Black was also reportedly sentenced to 12 months of house arrest followed by five years of probation. He was ordered to do anger management and 300 hours of community service. No word on the date or time Black will be released.
In a press release, Atlantic Records sent a statement: “We are grateful for the mercy of the court and pleased with the outcome. We are excited to watch Kodak Black grow as an artist and he is so thankful for all of the support he has received.”
The rapper, also known as “Project Baby,” recently appeared on the French Montana MC4 standout “Lock Jaw,” which was remixed by Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane.
