PartyNextDoor just released his third full-length album last Friday (Aug 12), but he tells Rolling Stone in a rather candid interview, it wasn’t all smiles on a day that he should have been celebrating. “It’s not an album release party,” he told the magazine. “This year wasn’t a party for me, as ironic as that is. The best and worst things happened at once.”

On the infamous IG post he made of a sleeping Kehlani lying in his bed.
“I regret how it went down. Big time I regret how it went down. I look into people’s eyes, and I know they think I’m a bad guy. There’s a lot of details that people don’t know.
“I just hope people understand that was a year for him,” he continues, switching briefly into third person. “And I hope everyone has a successful year, and I hope that’s in the past.”
On writing music this year.
“I tried this year to make the party songs,” PND says. “It wasn’t in me.” And that includes Rihanna’s “Work:” “People think that’s a party song. It’s a breakup song. It’s blues. I went from braggadocious to blues.”
On writing for other artists.
“It doesn’t make me happy,” he says. “I’m looking for joy. [‘Work’s] a moment for Rihanna and Drake. I want to invest time in creating moments for myself.”
