Get well soon Beenie Man. The dancehall king missed out on his co-headlining performance at Drake’s OVO Fest Saturday night (July 30) after reportedly contracting Zika virus.
He shared an IG post detailing his struggle and treatment regimine of “blood tests, injections, [and] pills.” He has also revealed that the Canadian government denied his visa after finding out that he had tested positive for the virus. He said that the same mosquito had also given him Dengue Fever.
Zika virus has quickly become an epidemic in the Americas. The virus has become prevalent in many parts of South and Central America, as well as Beenie’s native Caribbean. The first local transmissions in the United States were reported Friday, with a small area near Miami finding several cases of mosquito-borne transmission. Although the virus is very dangerous for pregnant women due to the high risk of birth defects, according to the CDC, the average infected person will experience few to no symptoms.
