As Drake fans count down the days until his Summer Sixteen tour kicks off on July 20 in Austin, Texas, some may be a little disappointed with this week’s recent news.
According to People, his scheduled meet-and-greets for the upcoming tour.
The VIP tour packages sold for $1,000 with a photo opportunity but were canceled due to “scheduling issues” with refunds currently in the works.
If true, the meet-and-greet cancellations come after Drake’s fellow Canadian Justin Bieber put a stop to the one-on-one fan opps in March, citing a “security incident.” He also offered this personal message at the time on his Instagram: “Love u guys.. I’m going to be canceling my meet and greets. I enjoy meeting such incredible people but I end up feeling so drained and filled with so much of other people’s spiritual energy that I end up so drained and unhappy.. Want to make people smile and happy but not at my expense and I always leave feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted to the point of depression .. The pressure of meeting people’s expectations of what I’m supposed to be is so much for me to handle and a lot on my shoulders. Never want to disappoint but I feel I would rather give you guys the show and my albums as promised. Can’t tell you how sorry I am, and wish it wasn’t so hard on me.. And I want to stay in the healthy mindset I’m in to give you the best show you have ever seen ;).”
The decision would also follow the fatal shooting of Voice alum Christina Grimmie during a meet-and-greet after her concert in Orlando, Florida, on June 10.
My two cents: I DON’T BLAME HIM AT ALL. It’s real in these streets….and in support of Bieber, it’s draining. I think this is a very smart move.
