Troy Ave Dodges Murder Charge

TroyAve_ohsodjTroy Ave learned he will not be charged with murder in a shooting at Irving Plaza last month that left one man dead and three, including Troy, injured. A grand jury has indicted the him on second-degree attempted murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Troy was arrested and charged with attempted murder after police released an 11-second clip that appeared to show him emerging from one room with blood on his leg and firing a single shot in the direction of people fleeing. Troy’s bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter, was the man killed in the incident, which took place in a green room backstage at the Manhattan concert venue.

Troy’s next court hearing is set for Wednesday, June 22.

The shooting took place May 25 at a show with T.I. scheduled to be the headliner, though he did not perform. Since Troy’s arrest May 26, both his lawyers, Leemon and John Stella, have maintained his innocence, asserting that he was a victim in the situation and that McPhatter died protecting his friend’s life. So far, no other arrests have been made. However, a gun linked to the scene was found in a car registered to Troy.
