Last night (May 19) while giving a pop-up performance at Opera Nightclub in ATL, Travis Scott revealed that a new album and single will be released in the next couple of days.
Just days before in the latest Billboard “Back To The Block” concert series filmed in Flame’s hometown of Houston, he explained the title of his upcoming album – Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
“The name of my new album after [my next project] Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight is now going to be called Astroworld,” Scott said, followed by a chorus of chants from fans screaming “Astroworld!”
Earlier in the day (May 16), Travis (real name Jacques Webster) let Billboard cameras follow him around his hometown for a forthcoming video and shared the inspiration behind the follow-up to his 2015 major label debut Rodeo.
“My next album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight is basically about all my friends and growing up here [in Missouri City]. I’m not saying that it’s a trap — we not in the f—ing projects but it’s like a social trap,” he explained. “It’s a social connection trap from what you want to do and how you want to express yourself. I feel like everyone just gets constricted by their parents or just, life.”
During his recent performances, he also begun previewing his next track featuring Young Thug and Quavo called “Pick Up The Phone.” Two new songs, labeled on YouTube as “Dinosaurus” And “3 Wayz” have also surfaced, though Travis tweeted (May 18), “If I didn’t drop it. Not legit. [–]”
While release dates for both Birds and Astroworld are yet to be formally announced, he told the crowd at Engine Room that he will drop “Pick Up The Phone” in “a couple weeks I swear” and that Birds will arrive “sooner than you motherf–kers can take a sh-t tonight.” Scott wrapped Monday night’s show with the Hot 100 smash “Antidote.”
