Prodigy Settles Universal Music Lawsuit

ProdigyProdigy has reached a settlement with Universal Music Group after suing the publishing company back in November.

Last fall, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep) filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Publishing Group for back royalties for allegedly taking 50% of all his work under his Mobb Deep deal which was signed back in 1995. Prodigy’s solo material was also included though it was not technically covered by the deal. He went on to add that UMPG was using his music without permission.

According to TMZ, Universal agreed to give Prodigy $153,751.21 for using the group’s music and his solo work without permission … but only on the grounds that he sends a tweet acknowledging a resolution.

With that in mind the following tweet was posted:

“My dispute with UMPG was all a misunderstanding. Thankful that we resolved it quickly and happy to be continuing my long-standing relationship with UMPG.”

Prodigy tweeted this statement twice, but both tweets have since been deleted.
