Drizzy season has begun. His latest “Summer Sixteen” – slated to appear on his upcoming Views from the 6 album – lands at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (dated Feb. 20).
The song was premiered on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio on Apple, on Jan. 30, where he also revealed that his upcoming studio set, Views From the 6, would be released in April.
Drake replaces himself at No. 1 a week after his chart-topping debut as the featured artist on Rihanna’s “Work,” which falls one spot to No. 2. He becomes only the third act to earn two crowning entrances on the chart, following Rihanna and The Notorious B.I.G.
According to Billboard magazine, only 13 songs have debuted at No. 1 on the chart, which began as an all-encompassing singular R&B songs survey in October 1958. Until now, Rihanna and The Notorious B.I.G. being were the only acts to score more than one chart-leading debut.
Before “Work,” Rihanna’s collaboration as a feature on Eminem’s “The Monster” earned the singer her first topping entrance in 2013. The Notorious B.I.G. is the only act to have two No. 1 debuts as a lead act — when “One More Chance” opened at the top in 1995 (the first track ever to claim a No. 1 debut), followed by “Hypnotize,” which led the list on the chart dated April 26, 1997 — weeks after his death on March 9 that year.
Digital sales of “Summer Sixteen” kick off with 215,000 digital downloads in the week ending Feb. 4, according to Nielsen Music, contributing the majority of points powering the No. 1 arrival (and his No. 6 start on the Billboard Hot 100). It also enters at No. 43 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, with 3.6 million audience impressions in the week ending Feb. 7.
Streams of the single reached 2.7 million during the tracking week, with user generated YouTube clips counting for 8 percent of the tracks total plays on streaming services.
