T.I. To Star In ‘Roots’

A+E Networks is bringing a remake of Roots to TV … And T.I. and Mekhi Phifer are slated to play in the four-night, eight-hour miniseries.

According to Variety, Tip will appear in the final of the four episodes as Cyrus, “a headstrong slave who fights for his freedom for the Union Army against Confederate Forces.” Phifer, meanwhile, will play Jerusalem, “a mute slave who works on the Murray plantation.” Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne and Malachi Kirby, who will play Kunta Kinte, were recently casted. The Roots’ Questlove has also been tapped to executive produce the soundtrack.

Roots is currently being filmed in Louisiana and is set to premiere in 2016.
