Apple Is Shutting Down Beats Music On November 30

dreEighteen months after acquiring Beats Music, Apple is shutting down the music streaming service at the end of the month.

The news comes just as the software giant announced its ramping up Apple Music to become available on Android. Until recently, Beats Music (and not Apple Music) was only available to the Android community which was the driving reason Beats remained as a option. You may recall Apple acquired Beats Music as part of its $3 billion Beats Electronics acquisition in early 2014. The company used the Beats team to build its own Apple Music subscription service. Apple is encouraging Beats subscribers to shift their libraries and playlists over to the Apple Music platform with its migration tool before the service is shuttered on Nov. 30. Beats Music users who make the switch won’t have to say goodbye to their personal curated playlists, which was one of the streaming service’s main selling points.

Beats Music hasn’t onboarded new subscribers since Apple Music went live on iOS in June. The official shutdown date was announced on the Beats Music support website. The post read:

Beats Music ends on November 30. Your subscription will be cancelled, but you can move your picks and preferences over to Apple Music right now.
All the pros that curated music for you are still crafting more amazing experiences. Plus, on Apple Music, you’ll get even better recommendations based on music you already listen to and love, 24/7 global radio with Beats 1, exciting material from your favorite artist, and more.

Beats products will still be available for purchase following the streaming service’s shutdown.
