If you’re a hip, young woman you probably heart SJP – Sarah Jessica Parker – or at least Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City … sans all the random sex though. I always thought that was a bit much.
Carrie was pretty, smart, had a cool job and great friends. She did it all … all while wearing sexy Manolo Blahnik stilettos. How did she make it look so easy? Well it seems that even Carrie (aka SJP) wasn’t so perfect.
In the latest issue of Net-a-Porter’s online magazine, the Sex and the City star, says she’s trading in her heels for sneaks these days — on doctor’s orders.
“For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels. I worked 18-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained,” the actress told the magazine.
After twisting her ankle on the set of I Don’t Know How She Does It, “I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot doesthings it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there…. You’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there.’ The moral of the story is, the chickens are coming home to roost. It’s sad, because my feet took me all over the world, but eventually they were like, ‘You know what, we are really tired, can you just stop — and don’t put cheap shoes on us?'”
**Big sigh of relief**
I always damned my feet for not being able to handle stilettos. Admittedly I tried to get on the Carrie shoe bandwagon but I never got too far.
When your feet hurt, it is so debilitating. You literally can’t think about anything else. So after a couple of failed attempts, I eventually decided “never again.” I went on a personal quest to end my foot pains and still be cute. After all, I’m not quite at the age where I want to wear a full-time flat.
I’ve come up with three options.
1. The old switcheroo. Each day I wear flats on the way to the office. Even though my walk to work lasts about two minutes, the cobblestone is brutal in heels and on the life of my shoe. This short fashion gaffe preserves my feet for the infrequent walking to the printer and meetings that takes place once inside.
2. The hidden platform. Not to be confused with a regular platform heel, the platform in a hidden platform shoe is inside rather than underneath. Essentially, it’s wrapped and concealed by the upper material to give the illusion of a standard toe; thus, the platform is hidden. It gives you all the needed height without the pain. So a 5″ heel with a 1″ platform sole will feel like a 4″ heel. Every little bit helps.
3.) Sofft and Nurture brand shoes. These two brands are built specifically for comfort with strategically placed cushion beds. Both are a more modern-day version of the old brand Naturalizer. Not to mislead you, for the most part, each season’s line offers a more conservative collection. However, there will be at least two 4” pumps that will surprise you. It’s worth the look and easy on your foot.
