LA Reid Defends Not Paying Bobby Shmurda’s Bail

reid_bobbyWell Epic Records CEO recently down with Rap Radar Podcast and spoke about a number of things including why the label hasn’t paid Bobby Shmurda’s bail.

Remember Bobby, along with alleged 14 other GS9 gang members, was arrested in Times Square’s Quad Studios on Dec. 17, 2014 on various counts of conspiracy, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. His current bail was set at the time of his arrest at $2 million.

“I’m crazy about that kid and I think about him often. And I feel like, you know, his better days are ahead of him. I do believe that,” Reid said. “And I think it’s unfortunate what has taken place. But, when I heard him, I believed him. That’s what sold me. It felt soulful. It didn’t feel like someone was play acting and it felt really believable. And, I guess it was.”

Facing criticism from many for not coming to Bobby’s rescue to pay his bail, Reid revealed that the reason behind that was simply because the record industry doesn’t make bank the way it used to many years ago.

“Well, it made me feel like people don’t know anything about my business, right? It’s really not their business. That’s the truth about it, right? We’re not elected officials here. And we’re not at liberty to disclose how we do business. It’s fair practice, I can tell you that. But, it’s not the industry that it once was,” he revealed. “We seriously don’t make the money we used to make. That’s a fact of life, right? Bobby Shmurda is not the same as Snoop Dogg and Murder Was The Case, who’s coming off The Chronic and his first album. It’s a different era, you know? And, we’re a publicly held corporation. We just aren’t in the same position we were in back in those days. So, it’s a different day.”
