No breaks for Bobby Shmurda. The Brooklyn rapper lost another bail bid during a hearing for his ongoing drugs and weapons trial in a Manhattan court on Monday (Oct. 5).
The 21-year-old, along with alleged 14 other GS9 gang members were arrested in Times Square’s Quad Studios on Dec. 17, 2014 on various counts of conspiracy, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. His current bail was set at the time of his arrest at $2 million.
His new lawyer, Alex Spiro of law firm Brafman & Associates, requested that he be released but was denied by Judge James Burk after Special Narcotics Prosecutor Nigel Farinha pointed out that the rapper’s application for bail was denied four times, his ties to Florida and his net worth of half a million.
Last year, Shmurda’s single “Hot Boy” rose to no. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Judge Burk denied the bail request and set Shmurda’s new trial date to Feb. 22, 2016.
