Naomi Campbell may have to spend six months behind bars after being found guilty for scratching the eye of Gaetano Di Giovanni, a photographer who snapped pics of her and former beau Vladimir Doronin.
During the couple’s 2009 vacation in Lipari, the photographer took photos of the British beauty and Doronin. The two were seen sight-seeing and gracing Sicilian streets with their star-studded presence. When a very dissatisfied Naomi allegedly swung her bag on him, she scratched his eye in what he regards as a physical attack. He also claimed that he had to seek medical attention following the incident, and it took him three full days for recovery. Now, the Sicilian courts are sending her behind bars for the incident even after she and Di Giovanni reached a settlement. The case’s prosecutor, however, proceeded forward with the charges because he felt that the charges were a bit too weighty.
The cellphone-slinging incident in which Campbell hit her personal assistant with her cellphone doesn’t help her legal scroll either. Though Campbell expressed a great deal of remorse for that 2007 incident, it didn’t stop the court from handing down a guilty ruling and sentencing her to community service hours. “I’m never gonna get away from it,” she told Elle magazine. “It’s part of my history. I was remorseful and regretful. I’ve served. I did that time. And I never want to be in that position again.”
Still, Campbell and her legal team plan to appeal the court’s decision, her attorney Guido Carlo Alleva told E! News. “We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident,” said Alleva. “Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss the matter further at this time.”
