Jay Z’s documentary of the 2012 Made In America festival in Philadelphia finally made its way to Showtime last night.
The Ron Howard-directed documentary recounts everything from Hov’s Marcy Projects’ beginnings to how the festival was birthed.
“Made in America is a bigger idea than just a concert,” Jay Z explains best in the footage. “After these great tragedies, creativity is born, and I feel we are in that period right now, where people are pulling themselves up by the bootstrap and saying ‘Okay, I’m going to go out and do this, and we’re gonna do it our way.” (Hmmm… Very DJ)
The film also features participants Janelle Monae, Odd Future, Pearl Jam, Run-D.M.C., Santigold, Jill Scott, Rita Ora and Kanye West.
