Drake Opens Nightclub in Honor of His Grandparents

drake_clubDrake has a new venture under his belt – a sports club named in honor of his grandparents – the SherClub.

“Rest in peace to my grandparents Rueben and Evelyn Sher,” Drake wrote in an Instagram with an accompanying picture of himself at the new club’s entrance. “My grandmother was the first person to ever play catch with me and my grandfather was the biggest sports fan in the world. I opened this club in the memory of both of you. I opened this club in the memory of both of you. Thank you to the ACC, MLSE, and Ferris.” #SherClub #6Side #FightNight

Evelyn Sher passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2012. Drake was extremely close with his grandmother and she was mentioned in several of his songs – “The Resistance” and the unreleased track “The Winner,” rapping, “Yeah, and in the name of Evelyn Sher/I’ll forever forgive anybody that never was there/For me, no other woman could ever compare/My angel, I hope heaven’s prepared for whenever you there.”

Evelyn also appeared on the end of Drake’s 2011 song, “Look What I’ve Done.” At the end of the song, Evelyn tells her grandson, “All I can say Aubrey is, I remember the good times we had together and the times I used to look after you and I still have wonderful feelings about that. So God bless you, and I hope I’ll see you.”
