Hailed as one of the biggest nights, the Met Gala didn’t let down this year.
The night’s theme was “China: Through The Looking Glass.” The 120-piece, multi-floor, multi-room “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit on display at The Met leveraged a mix of American and European designers like Yves Saint Laurent and John Galliano for Christian Dior interpreting Far Eastern fashion and culture into their designs, with authentic, hundreds-of-years-old Chinese robes alongside present-day works by Chinese couturiers like Guo Pei.
Speaking of Guo Pei, Rihanna stepped out in a gown by Pei topped by a breathtaking embroidered yellow coat with a meters-long train—showcasing Chinese design.
Actress Sarah Jessica Parker and singer Solange both followed the theme of the night while others went rogue and played to their own style.
In a barely there dress, Beyonce took the later route and made everyone forget about last year’s elevator gate.
Fashionably late, she arrived in a Givenchy dress which echoed Rihanna’s look at the CFDA Awards last year—seemed to divide critics and commentators. For some, the gown was the impetus for cries of “SLAY” and “MOM” and “DYING”; while others questioned whether the dress seemed to fit the theme for the event.
Either way … it’s fashion. It’s fun.
